This event, held in the Sacramento Valley, is for women who have hunted ducks five times or fewer. It will feature a full day of intensive training on the 5th (shooting instruction and workshops on calling, ID, cleaning and basic cooking), and hunts at three Upper Butte Basin duck clubs on the 6th, followed by lunch at one of the clubs. As we did last year, we'll be sleeping, eating and workshopping at the lovely Casa de Patos.

The only major change this year is that the hunt has officially become part of California Waterfowl's Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program, and all registration will go through CWA's website, instead of this one.
Here's your chance!Do you know a woman who'd like to participate in the Fourth Annual Novice Women's Duck Hunt this November, but doesn't have her hunting license yet? California Waterfowl has her covered!

CWA continues its popular women's hunter education event, the Women's Pheasant Hunt Weekend, Sept. 20-21 in Birds Landing.

This is an amazing event: For $225, a woman can complete her hunter education course, get shotgun instruction and then go on her first hunt the next day. She doesn't even need to own her own gun - loaners are available.

There is absolutely no easier way to dip your toes in hunting, with mentors who are keenly focused on safety and learning. If it turns out you don't love hunting, your total investment is two days, $225 and whatever gasoline it takes to get you there.

So, pass it on, and stay tuned here, because we're going to open registration soon for the Nov. 14-16 Novice Women's Duck Hunt, and spaces will go FAST.Holly Heyserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03134909592916671876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3941031623077555365.post-54840638330364019902014-08-20T06:33:00.000-07:002014-08-20T06:33:02.010-07:00Save the date - 2014 Novice Women's Duck HuntThis year, our Novice Women's Duck Hunt will be held Nov. 14-16. UPDATE: Registration reached capacity on Sept. 11, but you can still sign up for the waiting list - see above.

Registration is now open for the 2012 Novice Women's Duck Hunt!

Here are the key details:

> It's Friday Nov. 9 through Sunday Nov. 11.

> The first night and the whole second day will be at Red Bank Outfitters in Red Bluff, just like last year. That's where we'll do shooting instruction, as well as workshops on duck calling, duck identification, duck cleaning and duck cooking.

> The duck hunts on Sunday the 11th will be at private clubs in the Butte Sink, which has legendary hunting. And new this year: We're adding a pheasant hunt on Sunday afternoon - two birds per hunter!

> The cost is $260 per hunter. This is strictly to cover food and lodging - everything else is still being provided by volunteers, from the workshops to the duck hunts.

> The cap is 15 hunters, so if you want to go, sign up soon to guarantee your seat. Even if it fills up, though, you should register so we can put you on a waiting list in case anyone cancels, or in case we get an opportunity to add more seats in duck blinds.

California Waterfowl is offering a fantastic deal in September to help women pass their hunter education course, get some shooting instruction, get licensed and go on a hunt, all in one weekend.

The Women's Pheasant Hunt Weekend is held Saturday and Sunday Sept. 22-23 at Birds Landing Hunting Preserve and Sporting Clays. It costs $200, which is a great deal (and if you're not convinced, call around to get prices on hunter ed courses, shooting instruction and a pheasant hunts).

This is an excellent opportunity for women who are interested in joining the NorCal Women's Duck Hunt in November, but don't yet have their licenses.

If you can't make that weekend event but still need to get licensed, check out the Department of Fish & Game's hunter education website for a list of upcoming hunter ed classes near you.Holly Heyserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03134909592916671876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3941031623077555365.post-79479035273689759602012-06-04T08:47:00.002-07:002012-11-14T10:27:47.215-08:00First Annual Novice Women's Duck Hunt
